Being born in the 70's and really submerging myself in music in the late 70's and through, well, now, really, I came to the conclusion years ago that the 80's was the best era of music. There are quite a few reasons for this opinion, but I'll get into that another time.
Tonight I am hosting 80's Night at Game Time Sports Bar & Grill in Cheviot. We will obviously have all genre of music from the 80's but I am also hosting karaoke this night as well and I started thinking to myself, "What are the best songs to karaoke from the 80's"? There are an absolute plethora of them so I'll start with a list of some of the most popular ones.
Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer. This on comes in at number one because everyone knows it and the key can easily be tweaked for male or female singers.
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, I Love Rock & Roll. Once again this is a tune that nearly everyone knows and is an easy one for female singers. It's also a good one to start with if you've never done karaoke before.
Queen, Another One Bites the Dust. Everyone knows the bassline, and it's probably the easiest of the Queen line up to belt out. Great one for male and female voices.
Poison, Every Rose Has its Thorn. This quintessential rock ballad from the 80's is a must at karaoke night. It's easier to sing, almost everyone knows it and it's just a great song.
Bonnie Tyler, Total Eclipse of the Heart. Turn around, bright eyes. You know you want to sing this one! It's fun, not too easy and people love it! This is probably one of the most butchered karaoke tunes as well.
Cutting Crew, (I Just) Died in Your Arms. This karaoke tune for men isn't all that well known to the 20 somethings year old's but men in their 30's to 60's love to sing this one. Another great ballad from the 80's!
Phil Collins, In the Air Tonight. When anyone sings this one, the crowd undoubtedly does the drum solo on their table! It's a great, fun and easy song for anyone. Great one for beginners too!
Survivor, Eye of the Tiger. Who can resist singing this great song from Rocky? Almost everyone knows it, so if you're a beginner karaoke singer, you'll have the crowd helping you along.
Whitney Houston, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. There isn't an easy Whitney song to sing, but this one is a good one because everyone knows it, it's got a great beat and it's not too difficult to sing.
Journey, Don't Stop Believin'. This song is without a doubt the most popular of not just the 80's, but in karaoke as a whole. Released in the 80's, and claimed by millennials as their song, but we know who it really belongs to...everyone!
Until next time!
